Qu-PIC – Horizon Europe Celebrating Excellence: Elena Jordan Named Werner-von-Siemens Fellow 2025 for Groundbreaking Work in Quantum Technologies ๐๐๐
We are thrilled to announce that Elena Jordan, leading scientist at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), has been named ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ-๐๐ผ๐ป-๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฑโa truly prestigious recognition in German scientific and engineering circles. The award honors her pioneering work on scalable ion traps with integrated nanophotonics, blending miniaturized structures and optical control to manipulate individual ions.
Elenaโs approach emphasizes monolithic integration, embedding waveguide structures directly into chip surfaces to enable precise, low-loss controlโa feature essential for future quantum technologies like ๐พ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐บ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐, ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต-๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐พ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐บ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐พ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐บ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป. Her patented designs meet the highest demands for frequency stability and measurement accuracy, potentially enabling quantum devices to operate beyond specialized laboratories.
In Qu-PIC – Horizon Europe, Elena is leading two work packages comprising the design and planning of an ๐ผ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฐ๐น๐ผ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ and the development of an ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ for this optical clock.
